Trowbridge Youth Parliament take a walk through time with E G Carter

Members of Trowbridge Youth Parliament recently visited the former Margaret Stancomb school site in Trowbridge, ahead of redevelopment work by E G Carter & Co Ltd and Selwood Housing Group.

Selwood Housing, a local housing association based in Wiltshire, along with construction company E G Carter & Co Ltd, gave members of the Trowbridge Youth Parliament a tour around the site, giving the children an opportunity to see the former school building, learn about the plans to transform the site into affordable homes and to ask questions.

E G Carter & Co Ltd has recently secured planning permission to transform the disused former Margaret Stancomb school site into affordable homes. The original 19th century building will be retained and converted into three shared ownership homes, along with a further 18 affordable homes built on the site, for both shared ownership and social rent.

The town centre site has been derelict for over ten years, since the former school joined with Bellefield primary school.

Stuart Durrans, Contract Manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd said, "We were delighted to show some of the local youth parliament students around our construction site. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to see the ongoing process and how the old building will be given a new lease of life. We are looking forward to starting work and getting the 21 new homes off the ground."

Paul Walsh, Group Development Director from Selwood Housing Group said, "We were pleased to welcome the Trowbridge Youth Parliament, to take a tour around the former school that many of their parents and even grandparents went to. We are due to start work on this site in July, with the first homes expected to be completed in spring 2020. Many of the children expressed an interest in coming back and we would love to invite them once the homes have been built."
