Overton House Wins 2020 LABC Best Small Commercial Project

E G Carter & Co Ltd are pleased to announce that the conversion and extension of Overton House, Cheltenham won the Best Small Commercial Project award in the LABC West of England Awards 2020.

The awarded project is a £3m refurbishment which started with the demolition of a 1970’s extension to the Victorian villa. Part of the existing structure was held together with façade retention and underpinning which facilitated large-scale structural alterations to the remaining part of the building. The property was renovated to create a new fully accessible DDA facility and workspace for Barnwood Trust, providing a central headquarters for the mental health and disability charity. The outcome is a workplace which features a hierarchy of attractive and convivial rooms and legible spaces with the regency interiors revived and given new life.

Mark Harries, Associate Director at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “We are extremely proud to have been awarded the prize of West of England LABC Best Small Commercial Project. This type of award demonstrates great design and fantastic quality in construction and can only be achieved by a collaborative effort by the entire project team.”

The virtual awards ceremony was hosted back in September with the prestigious awards recognising excellence in the construction industry and considers not only the visual impact, but the challenges in meeting or exceeding building regulations, outstanding craftsmanship, innovation and problem solving, sustainability and high performance, site and project management and inclusivity.

Lorna Stimpson LABC Chief Executive said “I firmly believe that one of the best ways to see more good work is to praise building excellence and publicly acknowledge companies, designers, site managers and trades people who go the extra mile because of the pride they have in their work.”

E G Carter & Co Ltd would like to thank all of their partners who made this project such a success. Thank you, Fergusson Mann Architects, Momentum Structural Engineers, Method Consulting, Mildred, Howells & Co., Ark Consultancy and of course, Barnwood Trust.
