New Starbucks at Kingsway reaches practical completion

Construction of a new Starbucks drive-thru and coffee shop at Kingsway, Gloucester has reached practical completion, with E G Carter & Co Ltd delivering the project in partnership with developer Robert Hitchins Ltd.

Located at the entrance to Kingsway on Naas Lane, the 1,744 sq ft building has been constructed to provide a high-quality, modern facility for Starbucks franchisee The Magic Bean Company.

E G Carter & Co Ltd began work on site in June 2025 and has successfully delivered the scheme through a well-coordinated programme, working closely with Robert Hitchins Ltd and the wider project team to achieve a high standard of finish.

Thomas Jones, Construction Director at E G Carter & Co Ltd, said:
“Reaching practical completion is a great milestone for everyone involved. This has been another well-coordinated project delivered in close partnership with our client Robert Hitchins Ltd and the wider team, and we’re proud of the quality of the finished building.

“The new Starbucks creates a strong gateway into Kingsway and will be a valuable addition for the local community. We now look forward to seeing the fit-out progress and the site come to life for customers.”

Michael Plimmer, Senior Development Manager for Robert Hitchins Ltd, said:
“This is a major milestone for us as the new Starbucks Drive Thru represents the final phase of Kingsway’s commercial centre which Robert Hitchins has developed over recent years.

“It is great to see Starbucks join other well-known brands at Kingsway, providing excellent sustainable shopping and leisure facilities for local people and businesses in the area.”

The Magic Bean Company will now undertake the internal fit-out ahead of opening, with the new store expected to welcome its first customers in March 2026.

Melissa Allen, Central Operations Manager at The Magic Bean Company, said:
“We’re really pleased to be part of this exciting redevelopment and to bring Starbucks to the busy area of Quedgeley. We’re looking forward to serving the community and creating careers for local people.”

The Starbucks forms part of the wider Kingsway masterplan, a major mixed-use development on the site of the former RAF Quedgeley. The scheme has transformed the area into a thriving community, incorporating new homes, employment space, retail, leisure and education facilities.
