This significant development was marked by a groundbreaking event attended by key stakeholders and partners, signifying the beginning of an exciting journey towards providing more much-needed affordable housing in the region.
E G Carter & Co Ltd hosted the event alongside members of the Aster team, showcasing a united commitment to addressing the growing demand for affordable housing. The collaboration aims to provide a mix of high-quality rental and shared ownership homes on brownfield land, contributing to the overall benefit of the local community.
Jane Gallifent, Development and Sales Director at Aster expressed enthusiasm about the project. She said: “It was great to come to site today to mark the start of construction of these new affordable homes. At a time when there is a chronic shortage of housing in this country, we are doing all we can to deliver our vision that everyone has an affordable, safe and secure place to call home.”
The development will be called 1215 in recognition of the historical significance of the area and a reference to the signing of the Magna Carta back in 1215.
Mathew Vye, Associate Director at E G Carter & Co Ltd, said “The groundbreaking event marks the commencement of a development that aligns with our commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes. We are proud to work alongside Aster to bring this vision to life and contribute to the community's well-being."
As construction progresses, E G Carter & Co Ltd is committed to creating a positive and lasting impact on the local community. As part of this commitment, they aim to collaborate with local schools and colleges, particularly those closest to the project. Site visits provide an excellent opportunity for young people to explore potential career paths in construction and engineering, while also gaining insights into the complexities and teamwork involved in building projects.
The new homes in Lyne are being built with funding from Homes England, the government’s housing agency’s Affordable Homes Programme. The homes are expected to be ready for customers to move into in 2025.
