Ground Breaking at Pate's Grammar School

Today (Tuesday 20th February 2018) E G Carter & Co Ltd, Pate’s Grammar School and their partners, joined forces to host a ground-breaking event, marking the start of construction of the new multi-million pound, phased development.

Over the next 60 weeks, the site will be transformed with the addition of a new three-storey Sixth Form Centre and Library, as well as the refurbishment of vacated areas to provide a new performance space, junior library, science laboratory, much needed classrooms and a new PE Store. The £3M build, which is funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency, is due to be completed in May 2019 with the sixth form facility opening to students in January 2019.

Mark Harries, Construction Manager for E G Carter & Co Ltd said With the new state of the art Sixth Form Centre and Library as the focal point of the scheme, we have already demolished the existing garage to make way for the next phase of the project. We have filled the area with 500 tons of stone in preparation to receive our piling machine, which will enable us to start foundations, and the steel frame will start to appear mid-late March.

Come December 2018, the building will be complete, providing a fantastic asset for Pate’s Grammar School and demonstrate how great design, construction and all-round collaborative teamwork can provide first class educational facilities in Gloucestershire.”

Russel Ellicott, Headmaster of Pate’s Grammar School, said “This is such an exciting development for the school and one that will enhance our already outstanding facilities to provide the best learning environment for Pate’s students. We are hugely grateful to the design and construction teams for their expertise and efforts and the minimum impact this is having on the normal running of the school.

This fabulous development really will change how our school works. It will impact on our sixth form experience, which is already one of the best in the country, add a new library and provide facilities for sport, music, IT and some much-needed classrooms. We are looking forward to seeing the build progress”.

The ceremony provided a fabulous opportunity for the students to meet the teams involved, don the hard hats and high-vis jackets and sit on the excavator, which resulted in a tangible air of excitement about this amazing new facility.
