Gloucester 10k Race raises over £70,000 for charity after just 9 years

After the roaring success of the Gloucester 10k race it has been confirmed that the famous event has currently raised £70,000 for local charities based in Gloucestershire over its 9-year existence.

Main sponsors of the 2021 race E G Carter & Co Ltd were delighted to present a £6000 cheque to local Gloucestershire Charity – The Hollie Gazzard Trust, along with race organisers Davies and Partners Solicitors and the Gloucester Quays Rotary Club.

The Hollie Gazzard Trust was created following the murder of 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard in 2014 by an ex-partner. Set up by parents Nick and Mandy, along with sister Chloe, the charity helps reduce domestic violence through creating and delivering programmes on domestic abuse and promoting healthy relationships to schools and colleges.

In addition, it funds hairdressing training for young people who may not otherwise have the funds to study – something Hollie was talented at and passionate about.

The £6000 cheque will help to positively change the lives of young people through partnerships in communities, as well as working alongside other charities and professional agencies.

Nick Gazzard, Founder and CEO of The Hollie Gazzard Trust said, We’re delighted and so pleased to have been the main charity for the Gloucester 10k. Thank you to everyone involved and we will ensure that the funds raised will support some of the most vulnerable people in our community.”

Back in July 2021, the race saw 800 runners take part in Gloucester’s most iconic contest with many of its participants running for their own special reasons. nine years ago, the race was taken over by Davies and Partners after the County was left without a race. Nigel Tillott spoke to members of the Gloucester Quays Rotary club and was backed by them. 9 years on Nigel and the team have created a successful and memorable event that shows off Gloucester at its best, promotes health and wellbeing and raises money for the Gloucestershire Community.

Nigel said “It is wonderful that E G Carter & Co Ltd were the headline sponsors again this year. The company have got really involved in the race for the last four years and it was a pleasure to work alongside them. Again, we would like to thank the generous assistance of the whole Gloucester community- volunteers sponsors and supporters - which makes it possible to put on a race benefitting health and fitness, showing off the city and raises funds for local charities. thank you!”

A runner of the Gloucester 10K said “This race is incredible, not only are you running knowing that the money we have paid will be going towards local charities, but it’s also a very beautiful route. Running through the Gloucester docks, past the iconic Gloucestershire Cathedral and down by the canal gives you more motivation to keep running. The organisation of the race is spot on, all the marshals that you see while running cheer you on and give you the strength to carry on, I’ve not had that in any other race! This race is a great advert for what Gloucester can do.”
