E G Carter meet hosts of Gloucestershire Nightstop that have provided a home for 75 young people

Throughout 2017 E G Carter & Co Ltd supported Gloucestershire Nightstop as one of their charities of the year.

In March 2018 we were delighted to present a £4781.42 cheque to Ciaran Murphy, Manager at Gloucestershire Nightstop. This money was raised by the employees of E G Carter & Co Ltd after hosting a range of events including a charity football match, cake sales, quiz nights, 500-mile bike ride and much more.

Whilst we were there we were able to meet Kevin and Becky Wilcox, a family that volunteers with Gloucestershire Nightstop. Kevin and Becky support the charity by being a host, this includes opening their home to young people to provide safety in times of crisis.

The couple, along with their daughter Phoebe, have been volunteering for the local charity since 2011 and have so far provided a home for 75 young people across the county. Some of these can be a short stay for just one night, but others have stayed for as long as four months whilst finding their feet. In the time that Kevin and Becky have been hosting they have provided over 1300 bed nights for young people without a place to stay.

Ciaran Murphy, said “Having volunteers like Kevin and Becky really help make the charity what it is today. Without this type of support, Gloucestershire Nightstop wouldn’t be able to function. We would also like to thank E G Carter & Co Ltd for their support throughout 2017, without the help of local businesses and fundraising we wouldn’t be able to help as many young people as we currently do. Thank you so much!”

Gloucestershire Nightstop aims to make homelessness, exclusion and poverty a thing of the past for young people. Gloucestershire Nightstop believes: All young people should be treated equitably regardless of race, religion, gender, culture or other inappropriate distinction and are entitled to appropriate housing, support and a reasonable standard of living. Homelessness, exclusion and poverty are unacceptable and should be challenged in all their forms. All staff and volunteers are of equal standing within the organisation.
