E G Carter & Co Ltd gives East Oxfordshire School a new lease of life after flood damage.

Over the last 21 weeks Gloucestershire contractors E G Carter & Co Ltd have been working hard to revamp East Oxfordshire Primary School after the building was hit by internal flood damage.

Last year East Oxfordshire Primary School was faced with an escape of water within the main hall facility, this meant that the hall would be out of use, not only for the pupils but also the local farmers market which used the hall every Saturday.

In March 2017 loss adjusters, McLarens, appointed E G Carter & Co Ltd to get the school back on track. Work started in April over the Easter holidays and within a week E G Carter & Co Ltd had revamped the Dome Room, rear corridor and staircase to allow the students to get by until work could begin in July and continue throughout the summer holidays.

Over the last 6 weeks, E G Carter & Co Ltd have removed the temporary main hall floor and replaced it with an engineered timber floor, allowing extra flexibility when in use. Renovated the staff room kitchen and replaced the reception floors as well as redecorating the main hall, staff kitchen and reception area.

Whilst on site E G Carter & Co Ltd discovered additional damage to the rear corridor floor and the toilets, due to our flexible working approach we were able to incorporate this work into the original programme.

After a lot of hard work from E G Carter & Co Ltd’s Insurance team and patience from the school, work was completed ahead of schedule, ready for when the children start back at school for the Autumn term.

Dermot Nolan, Contracts Manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “It was a privilege to be a part of this project, within days of being instructed we had teams on site rectifying the damage.

It has been a challenging process with work having to be carefully co-ordinated during school holidays due the intrusive nature of some of the work. With the help of a fantastic team we managed to get all areas completed and handed over in time for the start of the new academic year.’’
