E G Carter & Co Ltd Corporate Social Responsibility

This year we have focused on our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility – a business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society) We have done this through many ways and the feedback we have had shows that it hasn’t gone unnoticed with our clients. Below are some bite sized examples of how we have incorporated our CSR this year.

Community – We have recently supported the Cheltenham Borough Homes #KeepCheltenhamWarm campaign and after asking our employees to donate any unwanted coats and we had over 25 coats bought in. We were also praised on social media from CBH and expressed how we both shared the same values.

We have also donated money to a range of projects to help support the local communities that we are working in, examples include Pocket Park in Bristol, GL Communities new kitchen space, Finlay Community School trip to Edinburgh, GreenSquare sleep out campaign. Along with donating money we have also donated time, we worked alongside the James Hopkins trust to repair their guttering’s and clean up their garden, we hosted a site-wide clean up to support #WorldCleanUpDay and supported South Western Housing Society by helping out with manpower as they created a new sleeping area for the homeless in Weston-Super-Mare.

Mental Health – This year we have tackled the tricky subject of Mental Health. We hosted a time to talk day which went down extremely well with our employees and gave them just 10 minutes to actually talk about issues that were troubling them either at home or work. We supported this with a seminar from a mental health specialist from MIND who spoke with our Associate Directors and Board Directors with how to deal with Mental Health within their teams. We also made all of our staff aware of the importance of Mental Health and had a talk regarding this at our annual Health & Safety Conference.

Earlier this year we recieved a email from one of our clients after receiving a construction newsletter expressing how impressed she was that we are taking steps to tackle mental health.

Apprenticeships – We have attended various career fairs, mock interviews and presentations regarding Apprenticeships and have had a record-breaking number of applicants and students applying straight after the events. We also took on a range of our clients apprentices and helped them gain experience on our sites, this includes Magna Housing apprentice, Louis Manchip where our Site Manager Roy Smith helped him with his carpentry experience to enable him to complete his apprenticeship. We are also giving valuable work experience to a range of young people, our current Robinswood Hill project has a volunteer who is learning some carpentry skills to take with him on his journey into his career.

Charity – Our current charity total is £19,468.18, this includes all of our donations throughout the year. Some of our larger events included Hills of Hope 3 Countries, Gloucester 10k Race, Charity Quiz Night and the Raffle. Over the last 7 years E G Carter & Co Ltd have raised over £67,000 for local and national charities.

The above is just a small of amount of what we have actually done this year. We would like to thank all of our employees for their continued support. We are looking forward to what 2020 will bring.
