E G Carter & Co Ltd build specialist home for independent living

Over the next 40 weeks, E G Carter & Co Ltd are working alongside Coombes Everitt Architects Ltd to build a new accessible single-storey dwelling.

The new home is for an individual with permanent, severe disabilities who is reliant on a powered wheelchair for all mobility and on-site 24/7 care support for all personal, domestic and leisure activities. To maintain as much independence as possible E G Carter & Co Ltd have been appointed to construct a purpose built fully accessible dwelling to suit all of their needs.

The works will comprise of a new build bungalow with associated driveway and landscaping to provide the end user with a completely accessible dwelling including specialist hoist installation, adjustable height bath and kitchen facilities. The new house is designed with a contemporary aesthetic comprising timber cladding, render, wall hung slate and metal standing seam roof coverings.

Peter Blanch, Associate Director at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “We are looking forward to this new development, not only will it be a life changing asset for our client but it will also reinforce independent living and that’s what we are most excited about, seeing how a home can really change someone’s life”

The architects behind the design are Coombes Everitt Architects, Director John Everitt said

“The development will provide a home for our client in the community where he grew up. The key objective of the project was to create a dwelling where the necessary space, assistance aids and technologies were integrated to the design from the outset rather than being added afterwards and thus allowing our client to live as independently as possible. The building form seeks to respond to the local topography and views from the site whilst also maximising natural light gain. Similarly renewable technologies have been integrated into the scheme to help provide a comfortable and cost effective home to live in.”

The building is set to be complete in Summer 2021
