Celebrating International Women's Day: Inspiring Inclusion

As International Women's Day dawns upon us, we take a moment to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality, particularly in industries where women have historically been underrepresented. This year, under the theme #InspireInclusion, we proudly shine a spotlight on the remarkable women within our company who are breaking barriers and reshaping the landscape of the construction industry.

At E G Carter & Co Ltd, we take immense pride in the diverse talents and perspectives that our female employees bring to the table. With a workforce comprising of twenty-six women from Surveyors to Management Trainees, from Accounts to Admin, women are integral to our success and growth. Below are just some success stories from the women who work right beside us.

Issy York, Management Trainee – Issy, holds a Degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree, she is currently undergoing training within our housing team to qualify as a Contracts Manager. She recently attended a G4C Networking event where other young professionals within the industry could discuss how Construction can change for the better.

Becky D’Arcy Reynolds, Accounts Manager – Becky's career is one which has grown through the power of mentorship, dedication, and growth. With more than two decades of experience, Becky's journey began by shadowing her mother, who served as the E G Carter & Co Ltd Accounts Manager for many years. Inspired by her mother's expertise and guidance, Becky embarked on her own path within the finance world. Through dedication and hard work, Becky now oversees a team of six within the Accounts Department.

Zoe Kirk, Surveyor – Zoe became our first female surveyor within the Company, after spending 4 years at Gloucestershire College and successfully qualifying she now looks after various housing sites and regularly mentor’s students on Work Experience.

Penny Flood, Client Liaison Manager - Since joining E G Carter’s Property Services Team in 2010, Penny has completed a Dewpoint Accredited Certificate of Accreditation in Water Damage Restoration & Remediation. She has worked her way up from Restoration Administrator to Client Liaison Manager and now regularly attends Client Meetings, Site Meetings and Networking events. More recently Penny attended an E G Carter Team Building Day and also accompanied two of our Management Trainees on a Client Coasteering Adventure Day in Anglesey.

Kimberley Galpin, Marketing and Communications Manager – Currently holds a degree in Communications and Culture. To enable her to properly step into the Construction Industry she is a Constructing Excellence Committee Board Member. Kim has various roles ranging from helping women in construction, encouraging young people to look at construction as a career and also promote social value within the Company and Industry.

Melissa Mustoe, Surveyor/Contracts Supervisor – Melissa embarked on her journey with us as an Administrator, but following a shift in career path, she dedicated herself to retraining as a surveyor. Having successfully completed her exams, she now stands proudly as a qualified Surveyor/Contracts supervisor within our Property Services team.

Louise Taylor, Management Trainee – When Louise started in 2021 she was the only woman out of 7 Management Trainees and Apprentices to embark on their career journey. She attends College once a week and is currently training to be a Surveyor. Louise is looking forward to starting her own solo project in the near future.

Jan Jackson, HR Manager – Jan's journey began in an administrative role. However, her passion for understanding people dynamics and creating a positive work environment sparked her interest in human resources. Jan took proactive steps to transition into HR, and after training and various courses she is now the HR Manager for E G Carter & Co Ltd.

Izzy Coopey, Management Trainee – Izzy's journey with E G Carter & Co Ltd began in July 2017 when she participated in a groundbreaking event at Beaufort School. Upon completing her A Levels, Izzy wasted no time in applying for E G Carter & Co Ltd's Management Trainee Scheme. Following an interview and a trial week, it became evident that Izzy was an exceptional fit for our company. Today, she stands as a testament to the success of our apprenticeship scheme, working alongside one of our seasoned Project Managers, Dean Lambert, at our project at Safran Landing Systems in Cheltenham.

Sian Baker, Aftercare Administrator – In 1989 on her 18th birthday, Sian stepped into E G Carter & Co Ltd for what was meant to be a brief two-week stint as an Office Junior. Little did she know, those two weeks would actually turn into 35 years. Sian not only found professional fulfilment but also met her husband at E G Carter too. Today Sian plays a crucial role as an Aftercare Administrator within our Housing team.

Steph Allison, Buyer - Steph's career at E G Carter commenced in 2010, specialising in procurement for all five Property Services offices. By 2015, her expertise led to a role in Major Works procurement. In 2021, she transitioned to General Works, broadening her responsibilities. Today, Steph manages procurement for General Works, Property Services, and Aftercare, alongside overseeing transportation logistics for the Company.

The above is just a handful of the incredible women we have working within E G Carter & Co Ltd and the Industry.
