The former warehouse building has been demolished to make way for the construction of 29 shared ownership homes, consisting of 19 two-bed flats and 10 one bed flats.
Councillor Erica Williams, from South Gloucestershire Council and Corinne Moore, from Sovereign Housing Association had the honour of using the E G Carter & Co Ltd ceremonial spade to officially break the ground and celebrate the start of construction.
Councillor Erica Williams, Cabinet Member responsible for housing delivery at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “I was delighted to attend the ground-breaking ceremony at the Cecil Road site which will provide a number of affordable housing units once complete.”
Corinne said “Sovereign is really pleased that work has started on the Cecil Road site to deliver 29 much-needed, shared ownership flats, just a stone’s throw from Kingswood High Street. We have worked successfully with both E G Carter and South Gloucestershire Council over the last few years to deliver a number of affordable housing developments in the area and we’re looking forward to progressing this project.”
Phillip Barnes, Housing Manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “Having worked collaboratively with Sovereign to purchase the site and secure planning permission, we are excited to have finally commenced the construction of these 29 new homes.”
The E G Carter & Co Ltd Construction Team were joined by Sovereign Housing Association and South Gloucestershire Council. The new homes will be completed in April 2019.
