The event was made unique when Headteacher, Sarah Tufnell and Head Girl both laying a brick into the new sports hall enabling the school to officially put their mark on the build.
Sarah Tufnell said “We are delighted to see the progress of the Sports Hall day by day. It is very exciting to think that we will have this wonderful facility, together with the other refurbished areas in the school, ready for next September. EG Carter have been extremely considerate of the school and our neighbours in the way they have undertaken this build, taking great care to minimise the disruption to the day to day operation of the school. We are extremely grateful to them, together with GCC and Roberts Limbrick for all the hard work that has gone in to getting it all underway. The topping out ceremony gave a great opportunity to have a look around at the building so far, and even to be taken up to the roof height to get a bird’s eye view!”
The ceremony provided a fabulous opportunity for the teachers and students, governors and councillors to meet the teams involved, don the hard hats and high-vis jackets and celebrate the start of this new venture.
Ash Baker, Commercial Manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “ E G Carter & Co Ltd were both delighted and excited to have been chosen by Gloucestershire County Council to deliver the new sports hall and refurbishment works at Barnwood Park.
It is clear to see that works are progressing well, however it has taken an enormous effort from a dynamic team to take the scheme from inception to this stage. A major factor in achieving planning permission, commencing works at the start of the school summer intake and achieving cost certainty at a level within the original budget is collaborative working and total transparency.
Both the Gloucestershire County Council framework and E G Carter & Co Ltd aspire to these core principles”
The new addition to the school will be completed in Summer 2019 ready for the new intake of students.
